"Operation Fastlink" worldwide anti piracy sweep
Saturday, April 24 2004 by Asmo

With a worldwide action in 10 countries and 27 U.S. states law enforcement seized computer thought of belonging to Internet based software piracy groups.

On the 200 seized computers several hundred thousands of warezed software titles were found. A total of 120 searches were done and 100 suspects arrested, making this the biggest anti-piracy sweep ever done.

Groups which were targeted in this campaign are Fairlight, Kalisto, Echelon, Class, Project X and APC.

"Once a release group prepares a stolen work for distribution, the material is distributed in minutes to secure, top-level warez servers and made available to a select clientele. From there, within a matter of hours, the pirated works are further distributed throughout the world, ending up on public channels on IRC and peer-to-peer file sharing networks accessible to anyone with Internet access", this press release of the Justice Department of the U.S. reads.

In May 2002 the FBI conducted a similar operation christened operation Buccaneer with law enforcement agencies worldwide.

A good move IMO. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for more moves like this in the very near future, particularly with regards to IRC. File trading is no longer "getting" out of hand, it has reached that stage now. mIRC is fast gaining a reputation globally as a file sharing client - saddening and ridiculous.

May law enforcement and the evil corporate bastards who pull their strings catch something nasty and chronic. :]

lol
waste of money, waste of time, they catch couple groups, there is always someone to take over their place. piracy will never be stopped. and what about osama and the other rapist and criminals? why bother right? anti-piracy is about the money, but what about human values and morals? shouldnt they pay more attention to the real criminals and terrorists killing every day? its too bad the world has becoming to the point where money is really everything
