|
Well, lying in bed and was thinking about irc for some reason and how people are know for there nick, in a lot of places with the 'new skewl' ircers you see alot of name-changes but most 'old skewl' have the same name for quite some time and have a story...
So, in good 'Old kewl' (dare i call myself that) fashion i will tell you where v0rtex (IRC) came from, and what it means and shiz.
Anyway, ive had my nick for 6/7 yrs now and it was something that i me and a friend 'Rogue' thought up in science class whilst bored, decided vortex would be a pretty cool name and replaced the o with 0 for abit of flavor. I use the nick pretty much everywhere i go, although you may notice variations like v0rtexio and v0rty...
So, how u guys decide ur nicks??

Lol, all the way back when I made my first steps on IRC (dont know exact year but must've been around '93 I think) I had an enlightened moment and choose Da-HiPpO as nick. It was the name of a 3d computer graphic character I designed, and somehow I just picked that up as I was asked to fill in something in an IRC program (yes, mIRC I think it was already back then).
Around '95 I pretty much realised how lame it was, and especially the capitalization. Dont know the specifics anymore, but bumped onto Asmodeus which was a demon that helped King Solomon build his mines, as well as did a few other things ...
Decided that 'Asmo' sounded cool enough. Plain and simple. Since then about each network seems to have its own Asmo though ...
For a while back I have been thinking of a new nick. Used the fantasy nickname generator (link on the links page) and came up with Rhaelm. Has a very celtic tang to it, with my love for Scotland, whisky, folk and myself playing tin whistle I thought it was really fitting!
But its really hard getting used to a new nick. Its like waking up looking in the mirror and having a new face or somehting! Couldnt get used to it ...

My nick is very simple tough, just the first three letters of my firstname & ehm well the two letter designation of my home country, but also the first two letters of my lastname (not that important for my nick). I use the capitalization to express that DE should be pronounced as single letters, not like some rl buddies try to make one_word out of my nick :S
I used this nick ever since I'm active in IRC & never gonna go for an other ;)

My first nick on IRC was ZeroCool back in 1996. I was under impression of "Hackers" movie and it sounded cool back then but not original.
My current nick 'Gizmo967' was my first yahoo e-mail account password. Gizmo from 'Gremlin' movie and 967 the number I used almost for anything (ie. Blockbuster). In 1997 when I saw that everyone was ZeroCool and that it wasn't original nor cool, first thing that came to my mind was Gizmo967 - my yahoo mail password. I haven't changed nick since 1997 and I believe I'll never do. It's pretty unique, well not that Gizmo is unique but with my number it kinda is
Also my 967 number was pretty lucky number 3 times in my life.
Regards,

its weird - your nick is your identity - when ppl change there nick all the time on the new skewl nets it is not oly annoying buy confusing... i dont plan on changing my nick for the forseable future - and if anyone steals it then i know the ppl who know the ppl who will get it back for me )
