Worms Causing Havoc

In case you have not yet noticed, a new family of worms are exploiting a bug in Windows' Plug And Play routine. Over the past few days I made a selection of the enormous amount of articles to be found on line for the "IRC in the News" section here in the sidebar.

The exploit, of which Microsoft issued a security bulletin on the 9th of this month, cause havoc in some key U.S. companies such as CNN, ABC and The New York Times.

According to anti-virus vendors there is a 'war' going between virus groups where worms are disabling worms from other groups and take over infected systems even. But Russian anti-virus vendor Kaspersky said it noticed no network traffic increase and that it was hyped up by the media a lot.

Infected machines are connecting to an IRC server where they can be controlled with commands by the drone runners.
