|
 |
|
In February of this year we ran an article about the delink of Cookie.*, one of the last 2 client servers at that moment in the Sorcery.Net IRC network.
Since then, several new client servers have linked to the network. But this weekend, the admin of the only US based client server decided to delink. "I?d say the delink was ultimately down to a general bad feeling between me and all the other admins", Zaphire.* admin PSG said to IRC-Junkie.
PSG contacted Sorcery.Net's admin Onno after the problems in February in order to help the network he has been using for a long time, and had a few channels hosted on. "I was just offering a shell for him to host an IRCD on to help the network. He was, shall we say, ?very arrogant and dismissive? about the whole thing and basically despite the fact the network needed more than just his server turned me down and fobbed me off", PSG explained.
Nonetheless PSG's offer was eventually accepted, and the server was accepted and used in the network untill this weekend.
"The ?problem? was basically Onno has taken dictatorial control over the Network over the last few months, there is a power struggle with various Admin's and I don't like that atmosphere at all it detracts from the point of using IRC in the first place" PSG explains his decision to delink the server.
"Ultimately I provided Sorcery with a shell that effectively saved them when Kechara delinked and all I get in return is stress and a complete lack of appreciation and no respect from the other IRCop's and Admin's alike ? as if they were somehow entitled to my IRCD without have to acknowledge me at all. It was basically me feeling like I'd been ripped off."
According to PSG, he himself is not the only person who does not like the role network admin Onno plays; "As far as I can tell all the other admin's that I had direct contact with dislike and distrust Onno and are generally unhappy he has taken control of the Network; and has now even begun to rewrite the Sorcery charter without the approval of the other Admin's. He's holding services the website and the DNS hostage on his box so there is nothing anyone can really do about it."
PSG has since linked the server to the Crazyass network. Over the past 3,5 days we extensively tried to contact Sorcery.Net for their view on the matter but had no reply.

A number of days later two SorceryNet admins joined the Crazyass IRC network channel and tried to start what appeared to be trouble. We weren't sure what they were trying to prove, but the situation was promptly attended to by our network staff.
As much as a I hate to see a large network lose a vital resource, I am very excited for Crazyass IRC. PSG's generous server link will certainly help us to expand and grow over the next few months.
Since the linking of PSG's server, we have continued to gain users on an hourly and daily basis. His server can handle thousands of users and you can reach it via irc.whitedust.net. Ports 6667-6669 are regular and port 6697 is SSL.

[02:48] Anyone alive?
[02:48] yes
[02:49] Unless you have any immediate objections I am gonna turn zaphire off now.
[02:49] You might want to put out a global.
[02:49] Considering you are directly responsible for its departure.
[02:50] ...
[02:50] You accuse us of being too serious.
[02:50] lol
[02:50] Whatever
[02:50] Have fun
[02:51] No I've just had enough of ppl not appriciating the fact i gave this network a server.
[02:51] and all i get is shit from dickheads like you
[02:51] ;p
[02:51] its just not worth it
[02:52] You get shit because you keep using the fact that you give the network a server as a lever.
[02:52] oh well
[02:52] you have fixed that.
[02:52] i just hope you have a good explaination when dan comes online to discover his server gone.
[02:52] because you are directly to blame for my departure; you and you logged extream rudeness and bad attitude.
[02:53] what have i asked for from sorcery?
[02:53] an oline which i have used twice.
[02:53] to do anything other than routing.
[02:53] :p

I was kind of wondering what the purpose of that logfile pasting too. It does not point any fingers to anyone. And who is "Lockwood"? It looks like he is related to Sorcery, but if he is, why react now while I sent three emails to three seperate Sorcery email addresses without reply?

Sorcery a large network with 2k users? mmm.. Id say small to medium. That aside.
Im kinda wondering who's interested to read about internal feuds and soap-opera like conditions on a net like this? Personally I think its not wise to give partys like this a new fighting ground over here. If the net is serious, they should handle it themself, and not go running to medias like this whining. ..and mite, ok ok. You saw a golden oportunity to spam your net. Waste.

The name Sorcery is still a pretty well known one, which is why I thought it was interesting to report about them, especially since they seem to have quite a few internal problems that leak out from time to time.
I have to agree that Mite's reply was more fueled from a point to promote his network, rtaher then to have a actual reply on this post.
PS: as in any news site or news paper you have the choice to read an article or not. If you think its not inteersting to you, by all means decide NOT to rwad it ;)
I do cut out a LOT of articles of which I decide are not interesting enough for the general IRC community (I get emails on a daily basis which I deny to post about).

I am the devil.
Everything the very mature sorcery admin say is true.
And that log makes it look like it's totally my fault.
;)
PS. They kicked Onno out of the Network Director position.

If you compare 2k users against the top few networks, yes, it doesn't compare. If you base it against *most* IRC networks? 2k is actually quite large, particularly for a network that doesn't support file-sharing channels and other things that absolutely plague most IRC networks, leaving them with something more to be desired.
