Hi everyone
Just want everyones opinion on a new service we've added to the chatspike network. After the success of gamesurges free custom title service we decided we should add something new to add value to our own network and we came up with the custom description service.
It is activated via a service called whoisserv (yes, i know, we're so original ) and can be used to set the SWHOIS field of any registered nickname each time they identify.
For example:
[19:31] .-------------------[ whois Craig ]----------------------------
[19:31] | userhost: Craig@frostycoolslug.com
[19:31] | Regged: Yes
[19:31] | Bot: No
[19:31] | ircname: Craig McLure
[19:31] | idle: 0:41:01
[19:31] | SignOn: Thu Jul 21 16:36:54 2005
[19:31] | help: user available for help
[19:31] | Extra: Craig Advirtise here for £10 a month.. Get your ad seen by anyone who whoises a netadmin! rwar
[19:31] | away: (not away!)
[19:31] | operator: Craig is a Network Administrator
[19:31] | server: stewie.chatspike.net (damn you vile woman!)
(The 'extra' field is the one set by the service). More information here: http://www.chatspike.net/?p=whois
So, ideas? opinions on how to improve this? -- and no we dont charge for this service

Hmm, if people hae something special to say, they usually just put it in the realname field, or a bit more clumpsy, the away message.
I guess it could be usefull, but it wouldnt be a reaosn for me to switch to your network ;)

if you put junk in the away field, what do you do when youre actually away? plus putting it in the away field makes the ircd bug you every time you message them, it gets very annoying

Well thats what scripts are for ;) But indeed I know many who use the away field for it, and simply not set themself back. A custom field would be cool for that. The realname field was designed for other stuff as well =)
