"Klient 2.1 is now available as a public beta. This beta version can be run by registered users only. This will open up testing to a wider audience while keeping the amount of feedback under control", coder Tom announced on Klient.com.
This version was released last Sunday already, but as a new release was planned shortly after we delayed this item in order to catch up with that release as well. As these things go, that release will be delayed at least by another week.
"While it is still a beta because there are some things to do, it has far fewer issues than 2.0.16 and many annoying and important bugs have been fixed. Keep in mind that despite the length of time since 2.0.16 was released, this is 2.1, not 3.0. Changes are primarily bug fixes and eye candy", Tom continues on the site.
In a reaction to IRC-Junkie Tom called this release "pretty solid for a round 1 beta."
When asking about the top three improvements in this release, Tom mentioned the next:
"1. The most obvious change is an enhancement rather than an addition: the 32-bit icons everywhere combined with the look of the new toolbar styles and docking. It is eye candy, not functionality, but it really improves the look-and-feel of the application and is probably the first change people notice."
"2. This is also an enhancement/fix: changes to the script language definition section allow support for additional scripting languages. Klient can now handle VBScript, JScript, PerlScript, Python, RubyScript, PHP5, and hopefully any other language for which an ActiveScripting language exists. The support for these additional languages seems to be stirring up a lot of activity in the community."
"3. I'm trying to think of a single major addition, but looking through the list it seems there are numerous smaller additions and enhancements rather than a few major ones. So, I can't really pick out a single one. I guess thats why this is 2.1, not 3.0 :) There are also 115 bug fixes since the last 2.0, some of which fix important issues."
