"Of course this new version addresses the buggies and most of the other comments and remarks we received after the previous release", the announcement starts on the mIRC website. "Apart from that Khaled spend lots of time on the UTF-8 support that was added in the previous version. As you might know UTF-8 is a font encoding system that allows you to use fonts with strange, international characters. That of course helps a lot if you want to chat in your own language!"

Another major change is the addition of the /toolbar command that will allow you to add buttons to the toolbar. Scripters will love this addition. Scripters will also like the new TABCOM event and $activewid, $lactivewid, and $leftwinwid identifiers. mIRC now also includes an optional treeview of your connections and opened channels and queries.

All 124 changes to this version can be found here.

While im sure quite a lot of people will love the addition of a treebar in mirc, i never saw the attraction. Seems to take up quite a lot of space in comparison to the switchbar. Granted if your on quite a few channels it could be usefull, but im not. I also expected this release to have IPv6 atleast *yawn*.

Treeview is especially handy in multiserver situations. But I agree with you on the size side, it does indeed take up quite a bit of realestate =)

Mirc seems to be great for beginers and a base for scripts such as noname irc!

I use mirc when i have too, although not TOO impressed by this seemingly unimportant update!

I've always used mIRC. It's plain, it's simple, and it's scriptable. I've pretty much costumized it to look the way I want, and to act the way I want.
