Anope stable 1.8.3 is out

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

The Anope project just announced the availability of another release in their stable tree, version 1.8.3

New in this release is the official support for InspIRCd version 1.2 which the services have been lacking before.

Other than that, lots of bugs as well as a few memory leaks have been fixed and 3 language files have been updated (French, Turkish and German).

Developer chaz writes in the announcement that they have “taken the decision to move to Visual Studio 2008 for our precompiled Windows versions” and that “this means that if you do not already have 2008 Runtimes you will need those but as several module authors have already moved to this version you may already have them”.

lightIRC Flash webchat is updated to version 0.9.7

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

The lightIRC project just announced a new version of their Flash webchat, 0.9.7, which has the “longest changelog ever” and that it is “going straight to version 1.0″.

The list of bugfixes and feature additions is indeed pretty long – two new translations have been added (French and Albanian), you can now save your nickname and preferences so it remembers them once you come back and it also supports highlighting of your nickname now – to name just a few.

The UI also had a few usability improvements – /whois output in the user central looks cleaner now and the default bans are now set to match *!*@host instead of nick!*@*.

Smuxi 0.7.0 – “the user-friendly and cross-platform IRC client for sophisticated users for GNOME / GTK+” – has just been released.

One of the new features introduced with this release, amongst a host of bugfixes and new features, is support for the microblogging service Twitter.

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

ircd-seven, the IRCd that is going to replace the aged hyperion IRCd currently in use on freenode, is in the final stages of testing.

After being in the public testing phase for over one year, it seems it is finally ready to go into production use on the network.

In an announcement, freenode staff write that after “extensive testing by users and staff, we are now preparing for the switch-over which is taking place at the end of this month” and that they’d like to thank “those of you who have helped test, those who have botted the testnet and in particular those who have helped us find and iron out bugs”.
