The new Xbox Elite 3 leaked in the Design Lab with TMR magnetic joysticks, VCA motors and four variants

A leak in the Xbox Design Lab database has revealed Microsoft’s plans to renew its line of controllers with a new driver codenamed Edessa. The configuration files and three-dimensional models hosted by the configurator platform detail that there will be a significant leap compared to previous generations in terms of performance.

From what the information reveals, it is clear that Microsoft plans to thoroughly update its professional controller, integrating magnetic sensors, advanced haptics and a physical volume control. Given such changes, it is logical to think that we would be facing the new Xbox Elite Series 3. In no case would it be the hypothetical compact edition.

Everything we have known about the Edessa controller

Before commenting on everything that emerges from the leak, we must remember that we already saw in detail what the new Microsoft controller will be like in a previous leak. Now, what we have are more technical details, details that are certainly worth knowing.

The main mechanical novelty is found in the replacement of traditional analog potentiometers with Hall effect magnetic modules and TMR tunnel magnetoresistance technology. Additionally, Microsoft will offer variants with different voltage resistances to customize the hardness of the levers and avoid friction wear. In addition, the front will incorporate a rotating wheel to control the audio directly from the chassis, complemented by low friction rings to silence rapid movements.

On the other hand, the customization system, internally referenced as Beatrice, includes 27 different combinations of accessories, metal casings and directional crossbars with a rough finish to improve grip. The rear cams will also debut butterfly-type formats, wide profiles and interchangeable asymmetrical lengths. In this way, Microsoft expands the ergonomic options available to adapt to different hand sizes and grip styles in action or driving titles.

Another key point that the technical diagrams show is the arrival of voice coil actuators (VCA) together with the vibration motors of the impulse triggers. Likewise, the leak reveals four commercial variants divided between the basic edition and the Elite Complete with charging base. It seems that the manufacturer will offer versions without vibration motors aimed at professional players looking to reduce the total weight of the device because they will be playing for many hours.
