Google opens reservations for its Googlebooks and leaves Spain out

They manage to run the Googlebook OS on Apple Mac computers

Just a few weeks after GoogleBooks launched, and despite Google’s efforts for the operating system, halfway between ChromeOS and Android, be exclusive to these new laptops, a developer has already managed to install it on other machines.

Specifically, Skylar Taylor-Barric has been able to run this operating system, also known as Aluminum OS, on an Apple Mac equipped with ARM “M” series processors. To do this, the operating system is booted into a virtual machine with support for GPU acceleration. This machine uses the Google recovery image of a Dell Googlebook XPS laptop.

The operating system seems to work, even running applications like Chrome, although there are problems when using elements such as Bluetooth, or exceeding 60 FPS on the screen. There is still work to do to make it a viable alternative, but it is striking how little time it took to make it work on other devices outside the GoogleBooks ecosystem.
