Age verification will be mandatory for the use of features of PSN online communication.

From Push Square They have shared a screenshot showing a request for age verification to use the PlayStation Store. The method used is a QR code which redirects to an age verification process using a mobile phone. This system asks the user for a copy of their identification, to verify the age a facial scan or receive a text message on the associated mobile phone which will use information from the mobile phone provider to determine the age of the user.

The United Kingdom and Ireland already apply these age verifications on PSN

At the moment, this system appears to be limited to United Kingdom and Irelandwhose laws require this type of verification for users residing in these countries. But these types of legal requirements are being debated in many more countries, including Spainhence Sony may be preparing to comply with new laws with this age verification system.
