Samsung and Corning are working on a self-healing screen against microscratches for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, according to leaks

The current smartphone market is getting pretty boring. As terminals become more and more advanced, the new features they bring in each generation are increasingly smaller and less relevant. In recent years we have seen few advances, or at least little relevant to the user experience, in terms of power, screens, cameras or autonomy.

The Samsung Galaxy S range is a clear example of this, with the latest generations being small improvements that did not make a leap that could justify the change of terminal for the vast majority, and it seems that for the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra the path is going to be the same. In fact, the latest rumors suggest that rather than improving, it will cut back on some elements such as the absence of the 3x intermediate sensor.

In this situation, manufacturers try to differentiate themselves with small improvements, and it seems that Samsung is considering bringing, together with Corning, a technology of “self-healing” screens. This technology would allow the glass, or coating material, to automatically repair small micro-scratches.

Saving the distance, it would be something like what we saw many years ago, in 2013, with the material of the casing of terminals like the LG Flex, which was capable of self-healing after suffering small scratches. Naturally, in the case of Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultrathe technology will be specific for screens and will not have to affect the display quality of the device.
