Smartphone shipments in Europe fall 10% and record their worst second quarter since 2023





Market studies continue to confirm a weak year in terms of sales of electronic deviceswhile large memory manufacturers achieve record revenues. A new report from Counterpoint Research has estimated shipments in Europe for the second quarter of this year as the lowest since 2023, with 35 million phones distributed from April to June of this year. This supposes a 10% decrease compared to the same period of the previous year.

Of course, it’s the fault of the current memory crisis with its high component pricesadded to others, such as growing inflation and the conflict with Iran.

Apple and Samsung tie with 34% of the smartphone market in Europe

This quarter, Apple and Samsung have managed to equal their market share with 34% in Europewhile Xiaomi has dropped to a 15%. In fourth position is the Oppo group that includes OnePlus and Realme, and Honor takes the 3% in fifth position. The remaining 11% goes to the rest of the manufacturers that sell phones on our continent.

The memory shortage especially threatens entry-level mobile phones

But this study does not predict better results for the following quarter, since the Inventory levels are low and shortages are beginning to be felt in the smartphone industry. Within this market, it is expected that the range most affected is the input rangesince the margins are smaller and the components become more expensive in the same way.
