Google Pixel Watch 5 launches detection of respiratory emergencies and GPS with double the precision
Google today presented the Pixel Watch 5, the new smartwatch of the Pixel family which arrives with the Pixel 11 series. The watch is based on the design of the Pixel Watch 4 to take a leap in proactive assistance with Gemini Intelligence and health monitoring, with the detection of respiratory emergencies as the main security novelty.
The company has reserved a good part of the announcement for the Health Guardian featuresthe health toolset that already included pulse loss detection and satellite communications in previous generations. Along with them now comes a new GPS tracking system and a strength training experience designed to be completed directly from the wrist.
Proactive support with Gemini on your wrist
The “At a glance” function offers dynamic and contextual updates on the watch screen, such as boarding passes when arriving at the airport or the remaining stops on a journey. Added to this is a improvement in Raise to speakthe most common way to interact with Gemini according to Google itself: just raise your wrist to start a workout, set a timer, or check a reservation from Gmail.
Thanks to on-device AI processing, these actions are executed with low latency even without an internet connection, and the Pixel Watch 5 can convert multi-step tasks into a single action with a tap. Behind this answer is the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor with low-power dual-chip architecture, which brings 50% more RAM and a 12% increase in CPU compared to the Pixel Watch 4, which translates into 20% more overall speed.
GPS routes with twice the accuracy
The Pixel Watch 5 launches GPS route tracking most accurate of the family to date, with twice as accurate than in previous generations in complicated environments such as dense urban areas or trails with closed vegetation. Google combines Maps’ mapping of satellite signal trajectories over 3D building models with a real-time connection to a global network of reference weather stations, which corrects readings based on current atmospheric conditions.

The assistant also translates recovery metrics, such as sleep or heart rate variability, into adaptive recommendations (for example, replacing an intense run with yoga at home during a heat wave). In the rest section, Sleep stage detection improves accuracy by 15%audiobooks automatically pause when you fall asleep and a new function, Alarm Clock Intervalanalyzes heart rate and movement during the 30 minutes before the alarm to wake the user in a light sleep phase.
Health Guardian adds detection of respiratory emergencies
The great security novelty is a pioneering function in the sector: respiratory emergency detection. Using photoplethysmography, accelerometer and barometer sensors combined with AI, the watch continuously monitors severe and persistent drops in oxygen saturation, associated with situations such as drug poisoning, severe pneumonia or asphyxiation. If an emergency is detected and the user does not respond, Pixel Watch 5 can automatically call emergency services and share exact location, available first in Europe.
Added to this are three new monthly trend summaries (blood pressure, sleep quality of breathing, and insulin resistance), built on Health Foundation models trained with sensor data from consenting users and validated against clinical reference measurements. The first report will arrive after a month of use and, according to Google, will soon be extended to other brand devices, including the new Fitbit Air.
Design, colors and availability in Spain
The Pixel Watch 5 keeps the Actua 360 screen domednow with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, 11 new complication styles, two new watch faces, and generative watch faces that adapt to the wearer’s style. The battery reaches up to 40 hours in the 45 mm model and up to 30 hours in the 41 mm modelwith fast charging and a repairable architecture that Google highlights as a leader in the sector.
New colors include Fog, Canyon (exclusive to the 41mm size), and Olive with the new Pyrite casing, plus HNBR straps. The watch is now available for pre-order and will hit stores on August 20, with prices from 419 euros for the 41 mm model and 449 euros for the 45 mm model.
