Apple has had its eye on Google’s Fitbit Air: it would already be designing an activity bracelet that would arrive in 2028

Apple wants to open new segments, especially linked to the measurement of health metrics. It is a market in which it is doing quite well with its Apple Watch and in which the company is synonymous with reliability and usefulness. Now, as revealed by a report published by Bloomberg and collected by The Vergethe company is working on an initial prototype of a quantifying bracelet without a screen

Apparently, it would be designed to be integrated into a fabric strap and come with a sensor module to record metrics. It must be said that the project is in an early design stage, so Apple does not contemplate putting this device on the market before 2028 in case the board finally approves it.

This news really shouldn’t surprise you much. It actually coincides with the industry’s interest in screenless, distraction-free monitoring devices. It is a concept that we have seen in established proposals such as Whoop, along with newer alternatives, such as Google’s Fitbit Air, the Garmin Cirqa Smart Band or the Polar Loop.

It seems that this minimalist format is gaining followers over the conventional smart watch due to its very clear advantages. And it allows you to monitor your health without giving up the classic watch, without carrying another screen and without having to use the charger every night.

Apple is in no rush when it comes to entering new segments

Apple is very cautious when it comes to launching new products. In fact, it has already demonstrated this with the iPhone Duo. Far from rushing to gain share in a segment, the Cupertino company prefers to observe the evolution of the market. In reality, it has taken 8 generations of Samsung foldables to launch its own. Probably, this is what is going to happen with this sports bracelets, although perhaps we won’t have to wait that long.

Despite the expected deadlines, Apple already has a good foundation in the form of software. With the recent launch of the Apple Watch Series 12 and the updates to the Health application, the firm already has a good ecosystem in which to add a complement like this.
