AGON’s new OLED monitor jumps from 540 to 720 Hz by changing resolution on the fly

There is a point at which the refreshment figures of gaming monitors begin to sound like science fiction, and the new proposal from AGON by AOC enters squarely into that territory. The brand has just launched its AGON 7 series with a first model that does not take half measures: an OLED panel capable of operating at up to 720 Hz and with a peak brightness of 1,500 nitstwo figures that not long ago seemed incompatible with each other.

The protagonist is the AGON PRO AGP277QKDCa monitor 26.5 inches (67.3cm) which launches the AGON 7 era and which, according to the manufacturer, is the first to combine the Dual Frame Mode (DFM) with new generation Tandem WOLED technology.

The star function is the Dual Frame Modewhich allows the monitor to be adapted to different gaming demands. The user can choose between a native refresh rate of 540 Hz at QHD resolution (2,560 × 1,440)intended for a sharper image, or a mode of 720 Hz at HD resolution (1,280 × 720) aimed at maximum movement clarity in competitive titles. In practice it is like having two monitors in one: one that prioritizes definition and another that bets everything on speed.

That performance is supported by the fourth generation Tandem WOLED panel. Using a four-layer stacked architecture, the panel improves lighting efficiency to sustain a 1,500 nits peak brightness (at 1.5% APL). This same stacked structure also improves reliability, since it distributes the emission load between several layers, a key detail in a technology so historically associated with the risk of image retention.

Design, ergonomics and the “complete desktop experience”

The new aesthetic introduces a Symmetrical base designed to maximize desktop spaceallowing for aggressive keyboard positioning and wide mouse movements. To minimize distractions, the monitor adopts a frameless construction on all four sides, aiming for the cleanest possible edge-to-edge viewing experience.

Physical design goes beyond aesthetics. The professional range base offers 150mm height adjustment, plus tilt, swivel and a 90° pivot for vertical orientation. Added to this are refinements such as a removable headphone holder, cable management through the base and lighting. Light FX RGB customizable. The control system has also been redesigned: a renewed OSD with joystick navigation and two configurable quick access buttons that allow you to preview settings by simply hovering over them.

Competition specifications and connectivity

Designed for the highest competitive level, this AOC boasts a 0.03ms GtG response time practically instantaneous and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible certification to ensure a smooth and tear-free experience. Also It incorporates Adaptive-Sync and is optimized for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, so it is not limited to the PC.

In terms of image quality, the panel covers the 99.5% of DCI-P3 gamut with 1.07 billion colors (10 bits). Each unit is calibrated at the factory and shipped with its own calibration sheet, a detail more typical of professional color work than pure gaming. The HDR section is anchored in the VESA certification DisplayHDR True Black 500which offers deep blacks and shadow detail for both gaming and content creation.

Connectivity is optimized for high bandwidth. Includes 2x HDMI 2.1 and 1x DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR 20)capable of moving those extreme frequencies without aggressive compression, in addition to an input USB-C with 65W Power Delivery and HBR3 bandwidth for video, data and laptop charging over a single cable. Complete the set integrated KVM switchwhich allows you to control two different PCs with a single set of peripherals, something very useful for streamers with dual-equipment setups.

One of the points that gives the most peace of mind with an OLED is the guarantee. AGON by AOC offers a three year warranty for the AGP277QKDC that explicitly includes protection against burn-in or image retention, backed by OLED Care maintenance protocols designed to preserve brightness and color accuracy for years. In a category where panel demotion is always a question, covering it in writing is a compelling argument.

The AGON PRO AGP277QKDC will be available from September 2026 with a recommended price of £699which is approximately equivalent to about 815 euros at the current exchange rate (an indicative figure that does not reflect local taxes or distribution margins). For now there is no confirmed price or specific date for the Spanish market, so we will have to wait for AOC to detail its arrival in stores in our country.
