Domain and Site for Grabs

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Lately I hardly found the time to put in this site to keep it a worthwhile read. Hence I’m considering letting it go to new hands. After running the site for more then a decade not a decision I took lightly…

The care of our son and other activities made me make this decision. There’s simply too little time to write anything like I used to do. Researching articles and writing an in depth article can easily take 3-4 hours which I simply can’t realize at this moment. Added on top of that I can’t spent as much time actually chatting on IRC either, so I’m starting to loose touch with the community itself.

mIRC 6.33 Released

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

“This version of mIRC continues to build on recent releases and addresses a number of issues that have been reported by users since the last release. It includes improvements, changes and fixes to a number of features”, the mIRC website reports.

“In particular, a new editbox “automatic” lines option has been added that dynamically changes the size of the editbox in a window to show the whole of your typed message, up to half the size of the window. This allows you to easily see and review a long, multiple-line message while keeping the size of the editbox small when it is not in use.”

ChatSpike Migrates to Atheme IRC Services

Monday, June 9th, 2008

“ChatSpike is migrating to Atheme IRC Services (from ircservices 5 which we have been using since we started, 6 years ago)” Brain said to IRC-Junkie.

W00t explains why IRC Services no longer serves the network. “IRC services was and is a big influence on the IRC landscape, to me. It was one of the first packages to be OSS’d, it was actively developed over a long timeframe, and incorporated user feedback. It supported a wide range of IRC daemons, and was also one of the earliest packages to get modules support”

IRC Defender 1.5 Released

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

IRC Defender is a security package written in Perl made for small to medium sized networks. Its written in Perl and fully modular.

It took some time to release version 1.5. Developer Thunderhacker explains: “InspIRCd became far more popular than he (Brain, ed.) expected and development of Defender got pushed to the side.  Shortly after I took over I went back to school, so my schoolwork pushed its development aside.  Now that school is out for the summer I will be doing a lot more development.”

Although newer versions are always available over SVN the team recommends stable releases if stability is important.
