mIRC 6.32 Released

Version 6.32 of probably the most popular IRC client have been released yesterday.


“This version of mIRC builds on recent releases by focusing on stability and reliability and addressing the various issues that have been reported by users since the last release. It includes cosmetic changes to the interface, fixes, optimizations, and improvements to the scripting language,” the mIRC website reports.

Some of the major changes include longer nicknames, channel names and messages as well as longer variables in scripting. Other changes include:

* Added support for network-specific window position saving.

Denora 1.4.0 Released

There have been hundreds of changes, improvements and fixes. We believe Denora 1.4 will bring you a more reliable and satisfying experience.”

Eggdrop 1.6.19 Released

It took almost 2 years for a new release, and even then it consists mostly of bugfixes of which one fixes a serious issue.

Version 1.6.19 of the popular IRC bot Eggdrop fixes a buffer overflow issue in the server module. It is exploitable by a malicious server. As long as the bot connects to a reputable server it should be OK.

IRC-Junkie tried to contact Guppy with a few questions but has received no reply so far, partly explaining the delay in reporting this new release.

Child Pornography Channelop Receives 8 Years in Prison

A 40-year-old channel operator of a child pornography IRC channel received 8 years prison.

An investigation led by Interpol resulted in the arrest of 25 channel members worldwide spread over 10 countries. The channel operator, Brian Martin from Oregon USA, has now been sentenced to 8 years in prison. On his computer more then 5,000 images of child pornography have been found.

The channel served as a trading place where members exchanged newly found child pornography files, including video files.

Martin requested to remain free pending an appeal of his conviction, but  U.S. District Judge Ancer L. Haggerty denied that request.

XChat 2.8.7a for Windows Released

Version 2.8.7 released the 20th of last month has been superseded with 2.8.7a Zed announced on the XChat homepage.

This new version is mainly a bugfix release, as the changelog shows.

The XChat Windows release is shareware. Freeware versions are still being released from the otherwise still available opensource code. One such release is from Silverex but is an older release, 2.8.4.
