Gigabyte launches two new B450 boards for AM4 with Q-Flash Plus and up to 128 GB of DDR4
Gigabyte has launched two new microATX motherboards for AMD’s veteran AM4 socket, and there is no mistake in that sentence: the boards use the B450 chipset, launched back in 2018, in the middle of 2026. The new models, the B450M D3HP and the B450M D3HP WIFI6Eare designed for economical builds and for upgrades within the AM4 platform itself, offering compatibility with AMD Ryzen 3000, 4000 and 5000 processors, four DDR4 slots and up to 128 GB of memory.
For a motherboard built on eight-year-old silicon, The features offered by Gigabyte are reasonable within that context. Both models include two M.2 slots (the first connected directly to the CPU via PCIe 3.0 x4 and designed for the main SSD; the second, via PCIe 2.0 x2 through the chipset, more suitable for a secondary unit where speed is not the priority), as well as SATA 6 Gb/s ports, a DisplayPort 1.2 port, two HDMI 2.0b ports, a front 5 Gb/s USB-C header and three RGB headers addressable.
The presence of video outputs confirms that both boards are also designed to work with Ryzen processors with integrated graphics from the AM4 platform, not only with models that depend on a dedicated graphics card.
Q-Flash Plus and 4+2 phase power delivery
Both boards incorporate a Q-Flash Plus button on the rear connector panel, which allows the BIOS to be updated without having to have a compatible CPU installed, a useful feature for those who buy a more recent Ryzen processor and need to prepare the board before being able to boot the system normally. In terms of power delivery, both models use a 4+2 phase design, and also share Gigabit Ethernet network connectivity.
A 4+2 phase design places these boards in the entry segment of the AM4 platform: It is a configuration designed to accompany moderate consumption Ryzen processors, not to support high-end eight-core models under sustained loads or with manual overclocking.
The difference between both variants is in wireless connectivity: The WIFI6E version adds this type of WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3 on the basis of the standard model, while the B450M D3HP simply dispenses with that connectivity. The rest of the technical data sheet (memory, expansion slots, storage and power delivery) is identical between both models.
The limitations of a platform with years of experience
These are plates that They assume the limitations of a chipset with several years behind it: There is no PCIe 4.0 in either slot or support for DDR5 memory, and as already noted, the second M.2 slot remains at PCIe 2.0 x2, a bandwidth below current standards. These are acceptable shortcomings for those who already have a Ryzen 5000 processor and DDR4 memory, or for those who are simply looking to build the cheapest functional PC possible.
Gigabyte has already shown in the past its interest in continuing to expand the catalog of AM4 boards with old chipsets, and this launch with B450 goes one step further: Eight years after the debut of that chipset, the platform continues to receive new models. AM4 refuses to disappear from Gigabyte’s catalog, and the company seems willing to continue providing support as long as there is demand for compatible Ryzen processors and inexpensive upgrades for already assembled equipment.
Gigabyte has not announced a price or exact availability date for either model. For now, the only certainty is that both models, the B450M D3HP and the B450M D3HP WIFI6E, already appear in the official Gigabyte catalog waiting for these commercial data to be confirmed.
