GIGABYTE renews the AM4 socket with B550 X Series boards with WiFi 7 and 10-phase VRM
AMD’s AM4 socket continues to surprise almost a decade after its launch, and much of the blame lies with a processor that has become an instant classic: the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. While the rest of the industry looks towards AM5 and the new generations, there is still a huge audience that just wants to get the most out of their current platform without going through a complete renovation.
GIGABYTE has decided to respond to that demand with the launch of the B550X Seriesa new range of AORUS motherboards that the company presents as the most powerful refresh available for the AM4 socket. According to GIGABYTE itself, the goal of this series is to offer a smarter path to elite performance without assuming the extra cost of next-generation platforms.
Designed around the Ryzen 7 5800X3D
The B550 has been specifically designed around this processorwidely considered one of the chips with the best cost-performance ratio on the current market. The board is built to sustain the 8 cores and 16 threads of the 5800X3D under extreme throughput, in addition to comfortably managing its generous 96 MB L3 cache.
This combination, according to the company itself, offers the type of gaming performance that keeps frames high without increasing the total cost of the equipment, a value proposition that is reinforced thanks to compatibility with DDR4 memory, still notably cheaper than the DDR5 alternatives in the AM5 ecosystem.
WiFi 7 connectivity for a platform that is already several years old
One of the most striking additions of the B550 X Series is the incorporation of WiFi 7 connectivity, something unusual in a socket with the history of the AM4. The 160 MHz ultra-wide channels allow, according to GIGABYTE, achieve unprecedented wireless speeds for this platformwhile 4K-QAM modulation offers greater throughput for seamless streaming.
Added to this is Multi-Link Operation, a technology that intelligently distributes bandwidth between different frequency bands, and a deterministic low latency that, according to the company, maintains stable response both in online games and video calls, even in the moments of greatest demand on the network.
To power the set, GIGABYTE has opted for a DrMOS-based 10-phase 60A VRM designdesigned to offer powerful and reliable energy that maximizes system capacity. Thanks to this technology, the company claims that the B550 X Series can run up to 20 degrees cooler than equivalent generic boards when combined with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
That thermal efficiency is supported by a redesigned VRM heatsink with Up to four times more cooling surface than standard designscombined with premium 5W/mK thermal pads for faster heat dissipation. Dedicated M.2 coolers, meanwhile, keep the high-speed storage cool and throttling-free, while a one-piece UD Base Plate backplate adds structural rigidity and additionally helps dissipate heat from the entire assembly.

GIGABYTE EZ System Simplifies Mounting
GIGABYTE has taken advantage of the launch of the B550 X Series to polish the entire assembly process with its signature EZ feature set. The WIFI EZ-Plug offers a plug-and-play antenna design that eliminates the tedious process of screwing on traditional antennas by hand.
He M.2 EZ-Latch Click and EZ-Latch Plus They allow screwless installation for both M.2 modules and their heatsinks, significantly speeding up storage expansions. For its part, the PCIe EZ-Latch Plus incorporates a quick release mechanism that makes it easy to remove large graphics cards, solving a common problem in older motherboard designs.
