Google Pics arrives, to bring AI image editing and generation to Workspace with the Nano Banana model

Although this service had already been talked about in some media before, today was the day chosen by Google to launch it. Google Pics is here, which you should never confuse with Google Photos. In fact, we are facing another component of the Workspace professional ecosystem, which is the company’s professional suite. This information is important because, even if you want, you will not be able to use Pics in your personal account, you only have it in your work account. At least for now.

More specifically, Google Pics is available on paid Workspace Business Standard plans or higher. Despite this, the company has confirmed that it will reach Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the coming weeks. Without a doubt, one more example of how AI services are increasingly focused on the professional sector and users who are willing to pay.

What is Google Pics exactly?

To simplify it as much as possible, we can say that Google Pics is like a kind of Canva, but with an overwhelming AI presence. There is no doubt that this is more than just a classic image editor and that, again, we are facing a product based entirely on generative models. Therefore, with Pics you can generate new images or apply edits to the ones you already have.

As detailed by the company, all the capabilities of the tool are delegated to Nano Banana. This template, which we’ve already discussed in depth, is great for easily adding text, isolating targets, moving them around, or adding new details. It also allows you to edit and translate texts that you already have in an image. Google comments that Pics offers several generations so that the user can choose the one that most convinces them.

Although it eventually reaches personal accounts (only paid ones, we insist), it is evident that it is a professional cutting tool designed to create images for reports, documents or presentations. In fact, that is precisely why, in addition to working as an independent app in the browser, it will be integrated into the rest of Google services.

Google plays the ecosystem card

Google has an asset that OpenAI and Anthropic don’t have. Yes, we are referring to the ecosystem. Workspace is not just Drive, but Docs, Sheets and Slides. Pics will be integrated into all of them (with the exception of Sheets), so there is no need to go to the specific website and, in this way, change tabs. If a user needs a new resource for one of their documents, they simply request it directly from that same application.

Once again, Google plays the same card that we already saw in Gemini Intelligence. You already have applications that billions of people use, in which you can integrate AI to universalize their use.
