Intel falls below 70% market share in x86 processors for the first time since 1995

The x86 processor market share continues to change in favor of amdwith the consequent decrease in the share of processors Intel. According to a study by Mercury ResearchIntel x86 processors have fallen below the 70% since 1995a drop of 6.5 points year-on-year. On the contrary, the beneficiary is AMD, which has risen from 30% filling the gap left by Intel.

Specifically, for this second quarter Intel has gained a market share of 69.3%a figure that has not been seen for 31 years. AMD has achieved 30.7%achieving a new record for the company.

The figures cover the shipments of CPUs for personal computers and serversnot including other types of CPUs such as custom ones, embedded systems and for IoT, if Intel’s figures are included they are worse with a 65.9%. This last case benefits AMD by sending processors for portable consoleswhich is having a better reception than expected. Intel does not play in this field, except for newcomers Intel Arc G3 Series with very few devices and time on the market.

AMD increases its share in desktops and servers

Looking in more detail, Intel has a 65.1% market share in desktop processorswhile AMD has the remaining 34.9%. This has made Intel lose 2.7 points compared to the same period of the previous year.
