Microsoft thinks about AMD Sound Wave for a more economical Surface line

Microsoft wants to confront the almighty (in price) MacBook Neoand has among its plans the launch of new devices Cheapest Surface. For this you will have to check certain components such as the memory, the battery, the case and, of course, the processor. From here new rumors arise of an old AMD project that seemed abandoned, the AMD Sound Wave APUspreviously linked to Microsoft’s Surface devices.

AMD Sound Wave: the possible Arm APU for cheap Surfaces

These rumors have opened the debate about the AMD Sound Wave, an Arm-based CPU from six cores (4+2) with an integrated GPU RDNA 3.5 4-core like those we see in other APUs of the company. At the moment everything is rumors, but it is also linked to its operation with LPDDR5X memory at 9,600 MT/s along with a 16 MB cache. Consumption will also be very low, with between 5 and 10 W TDP.

This also comes after Microsoft dropped AMD on its Surface devices, but the company still wants to work with the Santa Clara processor maker. A bet that could offer more product variety, and produce a cheaper entry-level range for users who want to spend less money on a basic device.

Microsoft could compete with the MacBook Neo with cheaper Surface

If Apple has done well by selling many units at $599, and then raising its price to $699, Microsoft with the Surface can repeat this success. It all depends on the right choice you must make to sell your devices before other competitors, such as the MacBook Neo.
