Yesterday, the creator of a Botnet consisting of more than 100.000 Zombies has been arrested. The 19-year old Dutch and his 16-year old brother are said to be the botmasters of what once was a botnet peaking 150.000 compromised hosts…
Also arrested was a 35-year old Brazilian that wanted to buy the botnet for his malicious activities – at the price of 25.000€ (US$37.290). The bust was a cooperation between the Dutch High Tech Crime unit and other international forces such as the F.B.I.
The botnet spread on Windows Live Messenger without the help of exploits but using a social engineering approach.

Lately I hardly found the time to put in this site to keep it a worthwhile read. Hence I’m considering letting it go to new hands. After running the site for more then a decade not a decision I took lightly…
The care of our son and other activities made me make this decision. There’s simply too little time to write anything like I used to do. Researching articles and writing an in depth article can easily take 3-4 hours which I simply can’t realize at this moment. Added on top of that I can’t spent as much time actually chatting on IRC either, so I’m starting to loose touch with the community itself.

“This version of mIRC continues to build on recent releases and addresses a number of issues that have been reported by users since the last release. It includes improvements, changes and fixes to a number of features”, the mIRC website reports.
“In particular, a new editbox “automatic” lines option has been added that dynamically changes the size of the editbox in a window to show the whole of your typed message, up to half the size of the window. This allows you to easily see and review a long, multiple-line message while keeping the size of the editbox small when it is not in use.”
