Samsung has already started shipping the first 1,600 nits OLED panels for laptops





Samsung Display has announced the start of the large scale supply of its new tandem OLED panels for laptops, designed to meet the new standard VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400the most demanding certification that VESA has recently presented for OLED displays with high brightness levels.

The new level DisplayHDR True Black 1400 requires maintaining black levels of 0.0005 nits or less while reaching a peak of 1,400 nits with 10% active pixels (OPR). It’s a jump from 40% in maximum brightness compared to the previous top, the True Black 1000. The Samsung Display panel, according to the company itself, can reach up to 1,600 nits At the panel level, 40% more than the usual 1,100 nits in single emissive layer OLED panels.

To achieve this amount, these OLED panels use two light-emitting organic layers instead of a single one, something that has already been used in other tandem panels that we have previously seen in the sector. By dividing the load between two layers, you can achieve more shine with the same current, or the same shine with less wear per layer. Samsung assures that this doubles the useful life of the panel compared to a simple OLED under normal use conditions in laptops.

The company also boasts of having used new organic materials developed specifically for this panel.

At the moment, the only product that has achieved real True Black 1400 certification is the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Editioncertified the past July 8. It is expected that ASUS, Dell and MSI present own models between the second half of this year, also with VESA True Black 1400 certification.
