Sony “will reimplement” FSR 4 in the PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026
FSR 4 is the latest version of Reescalado technology AMD Fidelityfx Super Resolution. AMD launched it together with the new AMD Radeon RX 9070 and Radeon RX 9070 XT as one more step with which to achieve higher performance with little quality loss, in addition to including new technologies such as Machine Learning or a better photograms generation system
Although it seems that it is exclusive, at least in its total implementation, of the AMD RDNA 4 graphic architecture, Sony has confirmed that FSR will implement in the PlayStation 5 Pro.
It will not be the same version of PC, but it will be something “Very similar to FSR 4 “according to the words of Mark Cerny, architect of the PS5. They claim that technology will achieve the same results as FSR 4, although it will have to be adapted to the PlayStation 5 Pro hardware.
This console achieves a yield of 300 tops at 8 bits without “sparsity” (discard of irrelevant values to increase performance in AI, a technology that supports RDNA 4, but not the PS5 Pro), which should be enough to implement something similar to FSR 4, although adapting it to a different architecture.
The idea is to integrate the most important technologies of FSR 4 into the PSSR system that the company introduced together with the PS5 Pro. They hope PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution.
The reason we will have to wait for 2026 is because, according to the company itself, adapting a technology like FSR 4 to its console is a very ambitious project that will consume them a lot of time.
