The Intel 18A process is already ready to make third -party chips

The node Intel 18A was announced in 2021 together with other manufacturing processes that entered the company’s plans. A little over a year ago, the company received the first EUV lithography machines from the Dutch manufacturer Asml to give life to this manufacturing process and now, almost finished February 2025, Intel has announced that his Intel 18A node is already ready to make custom customer chips.

The first processors for third parties that will be manufactured with this node are expected to leave their facilities at the end of the first semester of this year 2025.

According to Intel, its Intel 18A node offers 30% more density, and up to 15% more performance per watt than the current Intel 3 node. In fact, it seeks to compete with the N2 N2 of TSMC, one of the most advanced for the future of the manufacture of high performance chips worldwide.

The first clients that will use the manufacturing capacity of Intel 18A chips will be Amazon With chips for your aws cloud infrastructure, Microsoft with chips for your Azure servers, or Broadcom for your own solutions based on this new node.

Naturally, Intel itself will also use this node for its processors. If the plans are fulfilled, the processors PHANTER Lake and the Xeon Clearwater Forest They will be the first CPU of the company manufactured in the Intel 18A node.

Recall that, until not long, Intel only used its facilities to manufacture its own chips. However, with the latest restructuring, the company opened to manufacture third -party chips, a process that will culminate with a certain independence of the chips manufacturing division regarding the direction of the processing division.
