The mini PC Framework with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 has flown: the first shipment sells out in hours despite costing 7,759 euros

Framework has opened the reservation period for its new small desktop computer. This comes equipped with the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 processor. Despite the price barrier that, from the outset, places the model to be mounted on 7,759 euros and the pre-assembled configuration at 8,479 euros, the first production run has sold out in a few hours.

Everything indicates that we are facing a high demand that is produced by the need to have equipment capable of executing local inference of AI models. We have seen the same thing happen with computers that are also very good at inference, like the Mac mini. Be that as it may, Framework’s initial forecast has been far exceeded.

The computer integrates AMD’s Gorgon Halo architecture and uses a Noctua NF-A12x25 HS-PWM fan to dissipate heat from the processor in a modular chassis with black panels. While the basic version requires the user to provide their own storage drive, the pre-mounted variant includes a 2 TB NVMe 4.0 SSD and the Fedora 44 distribution with KDE Plasma environment. Graphics and computing performance rests on 192 GB of unified LPDDR5x memory shared between CPU and GPU.

The equipment will be available again in November of this year

It is evident that the availability of the equipment has not been very high. Obviously, this is due to the low availability of high-capacity unified memory. Now, the company has already confirmed in its X profile that it has obtained additional supply to open a second shipment. So if you were planning to buy this device, the good news is that it will ship again in November.

But be careful, because Framework has warned that The prices of the next lots will suffer additional increases depending on the costs imposed by memory suppliers in the coming months.

I am a computer systems technician, I started experimenting with a Pentium II, although my thing has always been software. Since I upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98 I have not stopped installing systems. I had my Linux era and I was one of those who asked for the free Canonical CD. I currently use macOS for work and have a Windows 11 laptop on which I have also installed Chrome OS Flex. In short, experiment, test and press buttons.
