The new Windows 11 search without Bing is now available: this is how you can activate it on your PC

Windows 11 has a new search tool that frees itself, once and for all, from Bing and web results. Although this feature is not new and has been available to Insider users for months, now you can activate it too.

Bing web results, which could already be disabled in previous versions, say goodbye once and for all and give way to a much cleaner search interface. In fact, it is this new design that really catches your attention right off the bat, being the real novelty.

A novelty now available, but not activated for everyone

If we tell you that the new Windows 11 search is now available, we are not lying to you. Even if you don’t see it on your PC. What happens is that, like so many features that come to the system, Microsoft is activating it little by little. Once you have the tool, visit Windows Update and install the optional August KB5120998 update. Then just run ViVeTool as administrator within a CMD window. It must be done using this command, which already includes the codes for the flags that must be enabled:

• vivetool /enable /id:62353331,62762248

Once the command is executed, you must restart the computer. Once the system has started again, the new search should be available and have a look like the following screenshot:

As you can see, it is a much more minimalist view, without unnecessary elements and that allows you to access suggested searches in a very simple way. Among them, you can also see shortcuts to quick settings in the Settings app.

Microsoft is willing to regain the sympathy of the community

Just a few hours ago, we published that Microsoft will stop insisting users make backup copies of their personal folders on OneDrive. In fact, it will allow you to eliminate ads that, far from being useful, look like blatant advertisements for the company’s services. Now, this is not the only good news we have received about the quality improvement of Windows 11.

Just a few months ago we were talking about Low Latency Profile, a new mode that allows the CPU to trigger its frequency very punctually. Thus, the perception of fluidity for the user increases considerably. We have also seen improvements in the permissions of non-native apps and even adjustments to File Explorer to make it faster.

All of these changes (the search one as well) are included in Microsoft’s plan called Windows K2, which seeks to regain user trust and improve the quality of Windows 11 before 2027. For the moment, it seems that they are on the right track.
