YMTC and CXMT will compete in Asia in the manufacture of DRAM and NAND memory
The memory crisis has caused new protagonists to appear, adding a fourth manufacturer to the list of the main ones that distribute worldwide. But CXMT has been one of the main ones also in local territory, Chinaand now it is preparing to also compete with YMTC. YMTC is another of the Asian memory manufacturers that, although they have different paths, it soon seems that they will share similar projects in memory manufacturing.
YMTC and CXMT will compete in the manufacture of new memories
It has been a report from DigiTimes where it tells us that Chinese manufacturers YMTC (Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp.) and CXMT (ChangXin Memory Technologies) They will begin to compete with each other in the manufacture of similar memory products. The two companies have now gained greater popularity with the increasing demand for storage and RAM for AIand have joined the global supply chain growing their business.
YMTC, which was specialized in storage, is now preparing for the trial production of memory chips by the end of this yearwhile CXMT wants to start research for the manufacture of NAND memory.
The current prices have motivated YMTC to get into other areas such as DRAM memory manufacturinga product that almost exclusively corresponded to CXMT in Asia. Similarly, CXMT, which mostly manufactures DRAM products, is also hiring former YMTC employees as part of its NAND manufacturing project initiative.
YMTC prepares LPDDR5 chips with initial production of 25,000 wafers per month
More specifically, YMTC seems to be interested in LPDDR5 memory chipswith an initial project of about 25,000 wafers per month. A production that can also cause clashes in available patents. CXMT may suffer if YMTC’s plans go as planned, as manufacturers will have another supply point to purchase LPDDR5.
CXMT, on the other hand, wants to produce NAND chips and its research center for the manufacture of this memory will be built in Beijing. But at the moment there are no visible deadlines for the manufacturer to begin this new adventure, which is an advantage for its competition. Rumors say that the first production lines will not be able to start until after 2 or 3 years.
The war for memory that is available globally, is now also transferred locally among the main Chinese manufacturers.
