You can now play streaming with Xbox Cloud Gaming on your modified PS5
PlayStation 5 consoles are becoming a versatile device, capable of run even a Linux operating system complete to convert it into a desktop PC. But this is only one of the possibilities, since it also has emulators and some other interesting applications. The last is to be able to play games Xbox Cloud Gamingaccessing the Xbox catalog directly from the latest Sony console.
PSBox Cloud Gaming allows you to play Xbox Cloud Gaming on PS5
The project is called PSBox Cloud Gaming and it is available thanks to the developer RafaelNGP who has posted it on GitHub. This is nothing more than a unofficial client of the Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming game service which can run natively on modified PS5s. As expected, a subscription is required to access the service, and the authentication method is very simple and you only have to enter a code to log in.
Streaming is done with resolution FullHD at 60Hzalthough there is also a 720p mode when your connection is slower, and a 1440p mode that is currently experimental. Even this client can make use of the PS5 GPU to scale content to 4K resolution with AMD FSR 1 or Anime4K. The video is decoded with H.264, with no HDR option at the moment since it is done on the CPU.
The client also allows you to play streaming from your own Xbox
As we are used to in these community developments, versions are updated quickly adding new features. Now it is possible even remote play to your own Xbox.
But since it is an early version, some users have reported crashes and graphical errors during games. An option that Microsoft could consider to bring its video game ecosystem to the competing console as well.
