Apple partners with LG and Schneider Electric to launch its first official home automation collection

Can you imagine Apple launching home automation accessories on the market that do not have the apple logo engraved on them? It is true that we were already warned, but now this singular step is made official with the Apple Home Collection. This is a complete family of security, air conditioning and access devices developed in direct collaboration with LG and Schneider Electric.

The movement comes alongside the announcement of the Apple HomeView home automation hub, the Apple TV 4K and the HomePod mini 2. It is, therefore, the icing on the cake of a clear offensive against Alexa and Google Home, which reign with comfort (and wide compatibility, it must be said) in the smart home segment.

One of the aspects that has caught our attention the most about this alliance is that The products do not require installing LG or Schneider applications nor register on third-party platforms. All devices are paired by bringing the iPhone closer using NFC technology and can be controlled directly from the Apple Home app. Communications are protected by end-to-end encryption, so neither the manufacturers nor Apple itself have access to the videos or usage data.

Privacy swivel cameras and ultra-wideband locks

Among all the proposals that arrive, some stand out. For example, LG includes a dual-lens doorbell that combines a 2.5K main sensor with a secondary optic pointing toward the ground to monitor packages.

However, the indoor camera also stands out for a physical mechanism that seeks privacy. And the lens tilts downward to cover itself completely the moment it detects that the first member of the family enters the house, reactivating itself when the house is empty.

For its part, LG’s Deadbolt smart lock dispenses with traditional keys, using ultra-wide band (UWB) and the new Aliro standard. This allows the door to be unlocked automatically when you approach with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch. Of course, it maintains a numeric keypad and a hidden lock for emergencies.

If you were expecting an explosion of home automation based on the Apple platform, you see that everything is going to be quite slow. We assume that Apple does not care much because it seeks to compete in the segment of the economical and super-compatible home automation in which Amazon and Google operate. As for the prices, they are not exactly cheap. Furthermore, at the moment, Apple has not set prices in euros nor has it detailed the launch schedule for Spain and the rest of the European Union.
