SK hynix already has more than half of its 2027 and 2028 capacity committed
SK hynix has communicated that your supply agreements In the long term they already cover more than half of its production capacity planned for 2027 and 2028. The company has signed contracts with 14 large clients, including cloud service providers, while maintaining its forecast that memory demand will exceed supply until 2030.
The update comes with its results for the third quarter of 2026 and provides concrete data on the supply for the coming years. More than 50% of two-year capacity already has associated agreementsin a market driven by data centers and the memory needs of artificial intelligence.
Multi-year contracts to ensure supply
The agreements usually have a duration of five years. The company is also negotiating with different clients the possibility of extending their deadlines. Advance contracting offers the manufacturer a demand reference to prepare investments and organize production.
The company explains that the contracts incorporate a mechanism that reflects market conditions within an agreed price band. Therefore, The long-term commitment does not necessarily mean that the price remains frozen for the entire duration of the agreement.
The weight of cloud providers shows where a relevant part of the orders is concentrated. The growth of AI infrastructure extends to both HBM memory for accelerators and DRAM and storage for servers.
The manufacturer maintains the shortage horizon until 2030
SK hynix attributes the imbalance to technical difficulty of the most advanced manufacturing processes and the time needed to build new facilities. Expanding capacity takes several years, so investment announcements do not immediately translate into available chips.
The company expects AI applications in businesses and individual users to sustain demand in the short term. It also identifies the autonomous driving and robotics as areas of longer-term growth.
Forecasting describes the relationship between memory supply and demand. It does not allow calculating a uniform increase for all computers or phones: the final price of a device depends on its configuration and other components, in addition to the memory it uses.
HBM4 and 321-layer NAND star in production plans
In DRAM, SK hynix will continue to increase the weight of its 1c process. The roadmap included in the presentation includes new generations of memory for servers and devices, with products such as HBM4E, LPDDR6 and DDR5.
The company expects HBM4 to outperform HBM3E both in shipment volume and revenue during the fourth quarter. For NAND, the focus is on 321-layer technology and enterprise SSDs, along with developing HBF solutions for AI storage needs.
Official results show revenue of 104.6155 trillion won and operating profit of 83.3338 trillion won. Billing grew 32% compared to the previous quarter. These figures correspond to the South Korean currency and must be distinguished from the amounts in dollars disseminated in some information.
The agreements reserve a portion of future production, but do not guarantee that restrictions will disappear for buyers who are not covered by them. SK hynix has not communicated a specific standardization schedule for memory modules intended for consumer computers.
