The developer downplays its importance and says that they will not negotiate
Rockstar Gamesthe study that has half the world waiting for the launch of GTA 6has confirmed a new security incident. The hacker group ShinyHunters claims to have stolen sensitive company information and has threatened to filter it if a ransom payment is not met.
According to the details that have emerged, the attack was not a direct intrusion into Rockstar’s systems, but rather the attackers would have taken advantage of a vulnerability in Anodotan analytics software used by the developer, to gain administrator privileges and access Rockstar instances on the data platform snowflake.
Rockstar assures that the leaked data is not important and they will not pay any ransom
In an official statement, the company has confirmed the unauthorized access, but has downplayed the loot obtained by the hackers. According to the developer, this is a limited amount of unimportant information which is not related to game development or user data. Therefore, reject any negotiation or payment.
It is not the first time that Rockstar has dealt with this type of situation. Almost four years ago, the company suffered a much more severe hack that exposed actual footage from GTA 6’s early development.
However, with the game entering its final stretch and the publicity machine in full swing, Rockstar appears to have made the decision to ignore hackers’ requests. Tomorrow the deadline given by cybercriminals to leak the data expires, so we will clear up any doubts about its content.
