Google confirms Googlebook, its new category of laptops with Gemini, Android and Chrome on the same platform

Google has officially confirmed Googlebook, a new category of laptops that places Gemini at the center of the experience and that combines elements of Android and ChromeOS in the same proposal. The company has presented it as a step beyond the traditional Chromebook, with a platform designed for Gemini Intelligence and designed to integrate more directly with Android phones, Google Play applications and higher-end hardware.

The announcement comes just a few hours after both Aluminum OS and the first materials about the Googlebooks themselves were leaked. Now, with the official presentation, Google confirms an important part of what was already suspected. The company wants to stop talking only about the operating system for laptops and start talking about an experience built around artificial intelligence. In its own words, Google maintains that it is going “from an operating system to an intelligence system.”

As the company explains, Googlebook brings together “the best of Android,” with its applications and a modern intelligence-oriented base, with ChromeOS, which it attributes to be the most popular browser in the world. The result, always according to Google, is a new family of equipment that will work fluidly with the user’s other devices and that will be supported by premium hardware. Google He is not talking here about a simple evolution of the Chromebookbut of a new category with its own identity.

Magic Pointer, widgets generated with Gemini and direct access to mobile

The main functional novelty that Google wanted to highlight is Magic Pointer, a function developed together with the Google DeepMind team. The company describes this tool as a new way to use the cursor on the laptop. Apparently, by moving it or pointing to certain elements on the screen, Gemini will offer contextual suggestions and actions related to what the user has in front of them. Google gives examples of pointing to a date in an email to create a meeting or selecting two images to visually combine them. The idea is to turn the pointer into an active layer of assistancenot just in a navigation element.

The second big feature introduced is Create your Widget. Google explains that it will allow personalized widgets to be generated from a written instruction, with the ability to search for information on the Internet or connect with services like Gmail and Google Calendar. The proposal involves building specific panels for each need, for example with trips, reservations, reminders or countdowns integrated directly into the desktop.

The third leg of the announcement is the integration with the Android ecosystem. Google claims that the Googlebook will make it easier to jump between laptop and phone without breaking your workflow. Among the highlighted functions is Quick Access, which will allow you to view, search or insert files on your phone from the file explorer on your laptop without the need for manual transfers. The company also teaches the use of mobile applications on a big screen, something that was already hinted at in the leak a few months ago.

Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo will manufacture the first models this fall

On the hardware level, Google has confirmed that it works with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo to launch the first Googlebooks. The company has not yet detailed specific configurations, but it does ensure that everyone will share a premium construction approach, careful materials and different formats and sizes.

It has also introduced a distinctive visual element. This is the Glowbar, a light bar that will be used to identify these teams. Google wants the Googlebook to be recognizable also by design, not just by software.

The company announces more details throughout this year and maintains the commercial launch of the first devices for autumn.
