AMD rescues the Ryzen 3000U to compete in the budget laptop market alongside Intel and Qualcomm

Intel has shown us its commitment to creating cheapest laptops with the new processors Wildcat Lake. But this commitment is complemented by a complete platform to fight with the most economical solutions on the market such as MacBook Neo recently released. amd It seems that it also wants to enter the fray, and has revived two older processors with which it will be possible to reduce costs on laptop and desktop equipment.

AMD recovers old Ryzen to compete in the economic market

In a completely silent way, AMD has added two new laptop processors from the series to its catalog. Ryzen 3000U low consumption. Some next generation processors AMD Zen+which also make use of more economical memory DDR4. These processors were initially designed for laptops, although they can also appear in desktop computers, usually mini PCs and smaller systems.

The first and most powerful of the two is the AMD Ryzen 5 3501Ua processor 4 cores and 8 threads Zen+ which has a base speed of 2.1GHz and turbo 3.7GHz. The other processor is AMD Ryzen 3 3100Umuch more modest with 2 cores and 2 threads and a base frequency of 1.9GHz that reaches the 3.2GHz.

Radeon Vega 8 graphics and DDR4 memory to reduce costs

In addition to these nuclei, which are approximately 2019AMD has also added integrated graphics in these two new solutions. Graphics AMD Radeon Vega 8 with 8 cores for the GPU and a speed of 1.2GHz. Being low consumption, its TDP can be configured from 12 at 35 Walthough by default it works at 15W. As we have mentioned before, these processors use memory DDR4compatible with speeds of 2,400 MT/s.

It is assumed that this new appearance will take place during this second quarter of 2026without a specific date of availability or a recommended price for each of these solutions. A solution that comes after Intel offer more details about your platform Firefly low-cost, along with the recently announced Snapdragon C Series of Qualcomm.

Honestly, it is very good that manufacturers are betting on this type of solutions, where they are clearly aimed at offering cheap laptops by AMD in the face of the reaction of other manufacturers such as Intel and Qualcomm. But what doesn’t seem right to me specifically with these two new Ryzen 3000U series references is reusing cores as old as 6 years while Intel offers a platform new and updated same as Qualcomm.

I don’t know, nor am I clear that AMD wants to sell this as cheaper solutions, but certainly if they are to confront Intel and Qualcomm with the Wildcat Lake and the Snapdragon C Series, I think that reusing these processors is far behind in all aspects.

Do you think that AMD will sell these processors in affordable laptops with other solutions? It is clear that should be cheaper even than what Intel, Qualcomm and Apple itself can offer.
