Sony is working on a controller whose buttons can be hardened or softened during gameplay
After knowing the patent presented by sonyfor a new buttonless controller for your console PlayStation 5now surprises us by presenting another new possible future solution for its controls. The console manufacturer PlayStation has presented in the corresponding office the patent for a command whose buttons can change the hardness during the game. A request from November 21, 2024 and which was published just a few weeks ago.
Sony patents a controller with buttons that change hardness in real time
It describes a input device with an operating element, a surface contact part and a control unit for hardness. Elements that give life to this idea, in which the user can touch the supposed operation element (a buttonfor example) and change its hardness on the fly.
To make this idea a reality, sony have thought about various implementations such as using a viscoelastic magneto elastomerwhich allows it to be hardened or softened depending on the intensity of the applied magnetic field. It can also be done by fluid filled membranes that can modify the sensation of pressing and touching a button.
A technology that could arrive with PlayStation 6
For this idea to make sense on a console like the PlayStation 5the manufacturer has also provided some examples of use. It can harden when touched harder ground or objectand soften when you’re walking by water or mud.
Often these ideas are presented and do not reach any goal, but without a doubt it is curious to say the least and may be a key technology when selling the new controls for your next PlayStation 6who knows.
