Beyond the materials and commemorative design, there are measurable technical arguments that place it in its own step within the catalog of the brand’s X870E line.

The ASM58012, key to expanding storage beyond the chipset

The ASMedia ASM58012 controller acts as a PCIe switch that allows you to multiply the available storage connections without depending exclusively on the lines offered by the AMD X870E chipset. In the case of Edition 20, this chip manages four slots: M.2_3, M.2_4 and M.2_5, accessible directly on the board, and DIMM.2_1, which connects through the ROG Q-DIMM.2 card. All of them support Key M type units in 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 formats.

The four slots managed by the ASM58012 operate in PCIe 4.0 x4 mode, one step below the board’s main slots, which use PCIe 5.0 directly from the processor. However, PCIe 4.0 x4 is still largely sufficient for most SSDs on the market today, including high-end models that fail to saturate that bandwidth under real-world conditions of prolonged use.
