Goodbye to Disney songs on your Wrapped: Spotify releases a setting so that they do not influence your musical profile
In our opinion, Spotify’s annual summary has become one of the platform’s biggest successes. Every December, millions of users eagerly wait for their playback stats to share with others. This is a win-win in every rule. On the one hand, the company gets a huge free promotional campaign and, on the other, listeners show their musical tastes to their acquaintances.
However, this compilation usually runs into a common problem in the family environment. Playing soundtracks from animated movies, Disney songs or lullabies to put the little ones to sleep ends up altering the count completely. Spotify, a company that has been doing very well lately, has decided to respond to this situation with an apparently silly and simple change, but one that significantly improves the overall experience of the service.
Children’s songs outside the algorithm and with retroactive effect
Basically, the application has incorporated a new selector in the settings to exclude children’s and family music of the user’s preference profile. By disabling this option, playback of these tracks will no longer shape the algorithm. This ensures that personalized selections like Discover Weekly or Daily Mix reflect only the adult’s real interests.
The company makes it clear that the adjustment does not limit the use of the account. Parents can continue searching, listening and creating lists with this type of content as normal. Furthermore, the measure has retroactive nature. Previously listened to familiar tracks will also not count towards choosing the most played song or lead artist on the next Wrapped.
Obviously, the platform wanted to highlight that there are managed accounts for children under 13 years of age, which have their own library and an independent annual summary. However, in most cases they will not be necessary, especially after the arrival of this adjustment.
How to set up the new filter in the mobile app
The novelty has begun its deployment on a global scale for all mobile device users, both in free mode and in premium subscriptions. The function does not come activated by defaultso it requires a manual modification to separate child plays from the general history.
To activate this filter, go to your phone and follow a few very simple steps. First of all, you have to click on the profile image located in the upper left corner to enter Settings and privacy. Next, you need to access the section Content and display. Finally, all that remains is to deactivate the box dedicated to including children’s and family music in the preferences profile.
The company warns that it may take up to 48 hours for the system to apply these changes to the profile’s personalized recommendations.
