A new modern cursor for Windows 11? Microsoft shows it in an official image

At Microsoft they are still committed to improving the perception that users have of Windows 11. Among the improvements, many of them included in their Windows K2 plan, we have found many that have to do with the interface. In fact, developers are putting a lot of effort into making WinUI 3 more and more optimized. However, the news we are getting now has to do with the cursor. New design in sight?

For the first time we have been able to see what could be the new default cursor of the operating system. It has been seen within the experimental compilation Build 26340.9354 of Windows 11. As discovered by the specialized portal Windows Latestthe company included an official image to illustrate one of its new features. In it, a clearly modified pointer appears, especially if we compare it with the current one. The graphic capture shows a wider and more symmetrical arrow that replaces the classic design.

What is most striking is that it dispenses with the typical tail of the Windows arrow. In addition, the line adopts a cleaner contour, with slightly curved edges and compact proportions that fit with the overall aesthetics of the desk. The pointer unifies its geometry with the modern lines of the interface, distancing itself from the visual appearance inherited from previous Windows deliveries. A subtle change, but important as it is an element that users interact with throughout the day.

It is not the first time that there has been talk of a new cursor in Windows 11

The publication of this image, which, we insist, is official, coincides with the information that circulated among analysts in the Redmond environment at the beginning of summer. The journalist Zac Bowden already announced last June in X that the company had this matter on the table. Wow, internally I was betting on an aesthetic renewal of this basic element. “I’m hearing rumors that Microsoft is testing a new cursor design for Windows 11 internally,” he mentioned.

Now, we are looking at the appearance of the design in official screenshots three months later. So it seems that development is at an advanced stage.

At the moment, the release notes for version 26340 are limited to citing minor fixes in the customization menu, without yet announcing the formal replacement of the pointer in the settings. However, Windows 11 has updated practically all the inherited components of its graphic environment, leaving the mouse as one of the few elements pending renewal.

Everything indicates that the company will enable this redesign in future builds. I would do that, as usual, before taking it definitively to the final versions of the system.
