The Razer Tartarus V2 Pro brings together 31 controls, TMR stick and Rapid Trigger for one-handed play

Razer has presented the Tartarus V2 Proa new version of its auxiliary keyboard for one-handed play. The device brings together 31 programmable controls, a TMR analog thumb stick and the brand’s second-generation analog optical switches. It also incorporates a polling rate of 8,000 Hz.

The format is designed for concentrate movements, skills, macros and shortcuts without taking up the space of a full keyboard. Razer targets it both at MMO games, where numerous combos are often used, and at action-shooter titles that take advantage of Rapid Trigger and other input priority features. Its recommended price in Europe is 219.99 euros.

Optical switches with adjustable travel between 0.1 and 4 mm

The main keys use Razer Analog Optical Switch Gen-2 switches. Unlike a mechanism that only records whether the key is pressed or released, these switches detect the distance traveled. The user can choose the actuation point within a range of 0.1 to 4 mm to adjust each input to the way they play.

Rapid Trigger removes the reset setpoint and allows a key to become available again when upward movement begins. The sensitivity of this reset can be reduced to 0.1 mm, making it easier to repeat a command without waiting for the mechanism to recover its full travel. Razer’s stated actuation force is 40 grams with the default setting of 2mm.

Each switch comes individually lubricated and sits on a layer of dense foam to dampen sound. The declared duration reaches 100 million keystrokes. The keycaps employ double-injected PBT caps to resist wear and prevent legends from fading with use.

The Tartarus V2 Pro Supports Snap Tapwhich gives priority to the last entry between two selected keys without requiring that the previous one be released. Snap Flex allows you to assign an action when pressing and another when releasing the same key, while Dynamic Keystroke You can activate up to four commands depending on the depth of the touch. It also has priority for two keys pressed simultaneously.

A TMR stick replaces the crosshead of previous models

The area for the thumb incorporates a full size TMR stick. This technology measures position using magnetic fields and Razer presents it as resistant to drift that can appear due to the wear of other mechanisms. It can be used to control motion, scroll through radial menus, or execute analog inputs with greater precision than a digital D-pad.

Next to the stick there is three dedicated buttons. One activates Razer Hypershift to access a second layer of assignments, another changes the keymap and the third allows you to switch between profiles. In total, the device provides 31 fully programmable controls using Razer Synapse.

The software allows create eight maps for each of the three stored profilesuntil there are 24 configurations. In this way, distributions intended for different genres or games can be separated and switched between them from the device itself. Trigger point and Rapid Trigger settings can also be changed on the fly using the built-in controls and LEDs, without opening Synapse.

The brand has included a wrist rest that can move forward and backward, rotate laterally and adjust its inclination between 15 and 20 degrees. The support position can be adapted to the length of the hand and the natural angle of the wrist, two relevant aspects in a peripheral designed to keep the fingers on the same set of controls during prolonged sessions.

A polling rate of 8,000 Hz and differences compared to the Tartarus Pro

The connection works with HyperPolling at a maximum of 8,000 Hz. The Tartarus V2 Pro can communicate its status to the computer up to 8,000 times per secondcompared to the usual 1,000 Hz in many peripherals. This figure reduces the theoretical interval between updates from one millisecond to 0.125 milliseconds, although the practical difference also depends on the game, computer, and monitor refresh rate.

The jump compared to the Tartarus V2 and the Tartarus Pro affects more elements than the polling speed. The Tartarus V2 uses mechanical membrane keys and an eight-way D-pad. The Tartarus Pro already incorporated analog optical switches and actuation point adjustment, but this new version adds the second generation of these mechanisms, Rapid Trigger, the TMR stick and the wrist rest with more adjustment possibilities.

The announced number drops from the 32 controls of those models to 31, although there are now specific buttons for Hypershift, maps and profiles. The addition of the analog stick full size It also modifies the use of the thumb area.
