Micron leaves the 2 GB GDDR7 memory chip out of its catalog

A few days ago we saw how the GDDR7 memory will soon have new capabilities per chip, which will offer the possibility to the future generation of graphics cards of increase VRAM capacity or equalize it by reducing the space required. Some chips 4 and 6 GB that will replace the current 2 and 3 GB available until now. We say this because it seems that Micron has already abandoned 2 GB chips and the only current option in this brand is 3 GB.

Micron discontinues its 2 GB GDDR7 chips

Despite being a recent technology, it seems that Micron will put aside 2GB chips to focus on 3GB chips as the only solution. The 2 GB models now appear on their website, both the 28 Gbps like 32 Gbpsas discontinued. This may be because Micron, despite offering its GDDR7 memory to NVIDIA for its cards, is not NVIDIA’s main supplier for this type of solutions.

3GB GDDR7 has limited presence in current GPUs

But the 3 GB chips also have no place in current NVIDIA modelsbeing the RTX 6000 PRO together with the NVIDIA RTX 5090 for laptops models that use this capability. We do not know if Micron will finally put aside GDDR7 memory to focus on other types of solutions, or if the manufacturer wants to update these 2 GB chips with a new model to try to sell more to NVIDIA.
