A rumor suggests that the iPhone 18 will have 12 GB of RAM and 2 nm A20 chips throughout the range
New information from Asia and collected by wccftech indicates that Apple is preparing a battery internal improvements for the iPhone 18 rangewith changes in chip, memory and connectivity. According to this rumor, the company would equip the entire family with 12 GB of RAM, in addition to launching the A20 and A20 Pro SoC, which would be its first chips manufactured in 2 nm.
The most striking fact is that those 12GB RAM They would not be reserved for the Pro models, but would also reach the standard iPhone 18. On paper, that would strengthen the base model quite a bit, especially in tasks related to local artificial intelligence, multitasking and games, three sections where memory begins to weigh more than in previous generations.
The leak also maintains that Apple would introduce its second generation 5G C2 modemsuccessor to the C1 and C1X. Among the planned improvements would be compatibility with mmWave and advances in satellite connectivity through the NR-NTN standard, an evolution that fits with Apple’s strategy of progressively replacing key components with in-house developments.
The base iPhone 18 would face some cuts
The curious thing is that this general improvement in specifications would coexist with some cost adjustments on the basic iPhone 18. As we already explained to you, this would be possible due to a possible cutout in the screen, which suggests that Apple could play again to balance visible components with less obvious, but important, improvements inside the device.
That approach would have a certain logic. If the standard iPhone 18 shares RAM, chip and part of the connectivity with the rest of the range, Apple could make it much more attractive for those who do not want to make the jump to the Pro models. In other words, the cheapest model would gain weight as a main option without forcing the company to completely redesign its product ladder.
Also mentioned is the arrival of a new wireless system N2although for now there are no clear details about its real advantages compared to the previous generation. And there remains another big question, namely, how Apple would absorb these improvements if it finally decides to maintain stable prices despite the increase in the cost of DRAM and NAND memory.
In any case, it is advisable to treat all this information with great caution. For now we talk about a rumor with little corroboration and, although several of these improvements are technically plausible, it is still early to close the specifications sheet of the iPhone 18. Even so, the direction of the rumor does leave an interesting idea. And Apple could be preparing a generation with more internal changes than the exterior design suggests, giving even more value to the base model than in previous years.
