AMD brings FSR 4.1.2 with machine learning to Xbox Series X and Series S

AMD’s latest upscaling technology is finally available for Microsoft consoles, Xbox Series X and Series S. The Game Development Kit (GDK) now includes the 4.1.2 of FSR Upscalingbeing the first time that AMD introduces this technology with machine learning in Microsoft consoles. Developers will be able to decide whether to apply this new technology to their games to boost the FPS rate.

This new implementation comes with two versions, the INT 8 complete which offers a standard implementation of FSR 4.1.2, plus a lighter INT 8 model which reduces the size by half, with less time required for processing. Although the latter seems ideal for the lighter version of the Xbox, the Series S, both seem to work on both consoles where the final decision will be up to the developer themselves.

The size of the model is not related to memory requirements, but rather to the rendering resolution of the frame output. An option that will allow you to check the changes is the possibility of Toggle between full and lite mode on runwhere you can get a report of the necessary GPU performance with both implementations.

FSR for Xbox uses the same API as the PC version

Compatibility comes after AMD expanded its architecture to more models RDNAextending to the one integrated with Xbox consoles, for which they have taken advantage and launched this implementation. In addition, for Xbox the same is used AMD FSR SDK API than the Windows version, so you can reuse the existing process. They have also left the same quality modes as in the PC version, which include Native Antialiasing, Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance.

Games will have to wait to take advantage of FSR 4.1.2

It will still take a while for games to take advantage of this new implementation, as developers have just received access to this version of FSR and will have to implement it for future releases or updates. If you were waiting for GTA 6 should include this new feature, perhaps you should wait a while longer, if it finally arrives.
