ASUS celebrates 20 years of ROG with the Crosshair 2006, a high-end retro motherboard for Ryzen AM5
ASUS ROG has taken advantage of this Friday to launch some new features, such as the new ROG Strix SCAR 18 from 2026 or its first DDR5 RAM memory kit. But he has also presented the ROG Crosshair 2006a motherboard with which the company wants to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first ROG motherboard. This is a model with retro design in copper color which recovers part of the visual identity of the early years of Republic of Gamers, but combines it with a completely current technical base for the AMD AM5 platform.
The brand presents this Crosshair 2006 as a flagship board with a very strong focus on advanced users, overclockers and those looking for a high-level device for gaming, creation or loads linked to local artificial intelligence. According to official information from the brand, it integrates 20+2+2 power supply phases with power stages of up to 110 A and 80 A depending on the block, as well as double ProCool II connector for power input.
The board is compatible with AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series processors on AM5 socket, and mounts X870 chipset. In memory, ASUS talks about up to 256 GB DDR5 in four DIMM slots and speeds that can exceed 8600 MT/s in overclock, in addition to a signal improvement that, according to the company, allows high-end kits to go beyond 9 GT/s in certain scenarios. All of this is accompanied by proprietary technologies such as DIMM Fit, DIMM Fit Pro, NitroPath DRAM or AEMP.

A retro edition for 20 years of ROG, but with functions designed for teams from 2026
One of the most distinctive elements of the model is the 2-inch LiveDash OLED panelwhich serves both to display system information and to customize graphics and animations. ASUS has included a special 20th anniversary animation, although you can also upload your own monochrome images or GIFs. In the POST phase it can display boot statuses and, during normal use, data such as CPU frequency, temperature or fan speed.
In connectivity and expansion, the 2006 Crosshair arrives well equipped. Offers two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and up to five M.2 slots, including PCIe 5.0 x4 and one M.2 2230 PCIe 5.0 x2 options. It also adds USB4, 20 Gbps front USB-C connectors, WiFi 7, 5 Gb and 10 Gb wired network and several quick assembly functions within the ASUS EZ PC DIY ecosystem. Added to this are tools already common in the brand’s high-end, such as AI Overclocking, AI Cooling II, AI Networking II and AI Advisor.
The company also focuses on uses linked to artificial intelligence. ASUS ensures that its function AI Cache Boostavailable on AMD 800 and 600 series boards with Ryzen 9000, can speed up certain workflows with large language models by up to 29% using cache and memory adjustments from the BIOS. It is a way to connect the classic discourse of extreme performance with a demand that is no longer limited to gaming or overclocking, but also to local AI loads.
As you may have noticed, the ROG Crosshair 2006 recovers the visual identity of the early years of ROG through a retro finish and a clearly commemorative edition. However, as they say, appearances can be deceiving, because this model maintains the technical level expected of a flagship motherboard in 2026.
