Gemini now allows you to create, preview and edit documents, PDFs and spreadsheets from the chat

Gemini continues to add functions, also for those who do not pay, despite the fact that just a few weeks ago Google left free users without access to Flash and Pro. Since October 9, those who do not have a paid plan can only use Flash-Lite, the company’s most basic model. However, now Gemini allows, also those who do not pay, create, preview and edit files without leaving the conversation. As announced by Google, the function is now available to all users, in all languages in which the application works.

The novelty includes editing for documents, PDF, presentations, spreadsheets and code, among other formats. The files are generated within the chat itself and, from there, the user will be able to expand them to full screen to write the changes by hand, select a fragment to ask questions about it or ask Gemini to modify the content for you.

PDF is the only format that can also be edited from your mobile

Of course, not all formats can be edited everywhere. It is something that must be taken into account. Previewing and editing PDFs work on the web and mobile. However, the rest is only available in the web version. This includes Google Docs, Google Sheets, presentations, TXT text files, code, and Markdown files.

Google gives a study guide as an example. Imagine you upload your handwritten class notes, ask Gemini to convert them into a PDF, and from there you can correct the text yourself or select a specific section for the AI to change the text or visuals. You can also continue asking questions about the document without changing screens.

To try it, you don’t need to activate any settings. All you need to do is ask Gemini for a file from chat and open it in preview.
