Instagram launches official application on Apple TV with support for Reels, live shows and long videos
YouTube is one of the applications that can never be missing from a Smart TV. A platform that, by the way, has long since joined the trend of short videos in vertical format. Now, it seems that Meta wants to challenge its throne among users who consume content sitting on the couch.
And, after months of progressive deployment in other entertainment environments, the company has officially published the application of Instagram for Apple TVallowing you to view both the usual short videos or Reels and live broadcasts and longer formats on a large screen.
The tool adapts the experience of the social network to an interface designed for consumption at home and in groups. Among its key functions is the account syncallowing you to resume any video on the television right at the exact point where it was interrupted on the mobile phone or iPad. In addition to the carousel of Reels organized by channels of interest with automatic playback, the platform accommodates the episodic and live series that Meta announced last summer.
An expansion that culminates in Apple TV
As you remember from MacRumorsthe arrival on the Apple platform culminates a technical distribution plan that began at the end of 2025 with pilot tests on Amazon Fire TV within the United States. Subsequently, the service expanded to Google TV in February 2026 and to Samsung Smart TVs during the month of June, consolidating a catalog of applications that also added a specific version for iPad in September 2025.
The Instagram application, registered under the version 66.0can now be downloaded for free through the Apple TV App Store. In the technical requirements section, the company specifies that the multimedia player must have the operating system tvOS 26.0 or laterfrom which point it is possible to link the user account and browse the followed profiles from the remote control.

I am a computer systems technician, I started experimenting with a Pentium II, although my thing has always been software. Since I upgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98 I have not stopped installing systems. I had my Linux era and I was one of those who asked for the free Canonical CD. I currently use macOS for work and have a Windows 11 laptop on which I have also installed Chrome OS Flex. In short, experiment, test and press buttons.
