Intel sues former employee for downloading more than 18,000 confidential files after being fired
Industrial espionage is a very important concern in the business sector, especially in companies whose products have a huge R&D work behind them and are in a very competitive market.
Intel is one of these companies and has just now sued a former employee who has worked at the company for 11 years.
This employee, who worked as an engineer in the company, would have bypassed all the security measures that Intel implements to prevent the leak of sensitive documents to download a whopping 18,000 confidential documents.
After being fired, this Intel engineer downloaded more than 18,000 confidential data
Intel notified the dismissal of this worker, Jinfeng Luo, at the beginning of July of this year, informing him that he had to leave his job at the end of the month. However, it seems that the company did not completely deactivate his credentials, and the employee, it is unknown whether out of spite or with some other intention, connected a NAS to his laptop and his Intel account to download thousands of documents.
According to Intel in its lawsuit, many of these documents were “Top Secret” or contained confidential information. The company also points out that they have tried to contact the employee through a multitude of methods and even calling family members and close acquaintances, after detecting the download of files, without receiving a response from them.
Given the lack of response, the company has decided to sue him in court, asking the former employee for at least $250,000, a figure that could vary once all the stolen information and its importance are organized.
