RPCS3 solves your performance problems with NVIDIA cards achieving FPS improvements of up to 37% in some titles
RPCS3 is a well-known emulator for PlayStation 3. Recently, we explained to you that with it you can now play 75% of the catalog of this console. In addition, it also included support for launching games from Steam. If you are a fan of emulators, and especially RPCS3, you will be happy to know that its development does not stop and that, beyond these new features, very important changes continue to arrive.
And the development team has published a tweet in which it mentions that it found an error in the NVIDIA driver. This prevented us from maximizing resources and considerably limited performance. Well, that is now a thing of the past.
A considerable increase in FPS
According to the tests published by the RPCS3 team, after applying this solution, which for now is provisional, they have achieved Improve emulator performance by up to 25% in some cases. Performance tests have been carried out using the following combinations:
- An Intel i9-13900K together with an NVIDIA RTX 3080 obtains up to 20% more FPS.
- The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an NVIDIA RTX 5090 achieves up to 25% higher FPS.
In addition to these figures, the developers have also shown some screenshots of the emulator working without and with the patch applied. For example, in the combination that used the Intel processor, in the same scene it went from 58 FPS to 69 FPS. For its part, the combination that included the AMD chip, the same scene goes from 79 FPS to 100 FPS.
Likewise, the team has tried other combinations, even using teams with more years behind them. For example, on a laptop with an Intel i7-7700HQ and an NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics card, they have achieved an approximate 20% improvement in Saints Row IV and up to a 10% improvement in Saints Row: The Third.
Finally, they have also managed to reduce VRAM consumption. For example, in a Gran Turismo 5 with AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D and an RTX 3070, they have gone from 107 FPS to 147 FPS, resulting in an increase of 37%. But the most interesting thing is that went from 7.1 GB to 4.8 GB of VRAMa reduction of 32%.
