so you can use artificial intelligence to create realistic songs with music and voice
Suno AI: What is it and why is it changing the game?
In this guide I am going to explain to you what Suno AI is and why it has become one of the most impressive artificial intelligence tools in recent times. If you have ever dreamed of creating your own music, but you don’t know how to play a single chord, this platform is the answer. It is a generative system capable of composing complete songs, with voice, lyrics and melody, from a simple text description.
In this way, we can say that Suno AI works in a very similar way to the text or image generators that you already know. It is the musical equivalent of what other AIs do in the visual field. Its objective is to democratize musical creation. Think about that creative user, perhaps a fan of the lo-fi genre, who enjoys selecting songs for Spotify but lacks technical training in music theory or production. Thanks to Suno, that person can now go from being a mere curator to an active creator.
Currently, the platform operates with its most advanced models, such as version v4.5 and the impressive v5. These engines are true beasts of audio processing. We’re no longer talking about robotic sounds or simple melodies. We are facing a technology capable of generate hyperrealistic voiceswith nuances, breaths and emotions, mounted on complex musical structures. In case you had any doubts, I can confirm it: the barrier between the human and the synthetic has become more diffuse than ever.
How to get started with Suno AI: interface and credit system
The first step to using Suno AI is to lose your fear of the interface. Fortunately, the developers have opted for a clean and accessible design. To get started, you just need to register on its official website. Once inside, you will see a panel that invites you to explore, but what interests us is the tab Create.
Suno works under a model freemium based on credits. This is important to keep in mind from the beginning. Each time you ask the AI to generate a song, a set number of credits are consumed.
Does this mean that you have to pay? No. The free plan is quite generous and capable. It gives you a daily amount of credits that are renewed, which is more than enough to tinker, test styles and generate several songs a day without spending a euro. However, if your intention is to use the tool intensively or you are looking for commercial ownership of the themes (I will tell you a little more about this later), then you will have to go to the checkout and purchase a subscription.

When you enter the creation section, you will find two paths. On the one hand, the standard mode or Simplewhere you only enter a description. On the other hand, the mode customwhich is where the true power of the tool lies and where you can define lyrics, specific musical styles and structures.
When you put AI to compose: real tests
The theory is very good, but for this guide I wanted to test Suno’s capabilities with two very different experiments. My idea has been to see how it behaves when faced with a vague and simple requestand how he reacts when we demand a structural complexity typical of a legendary band.
Below, I detail the results of these tests so you can see how far this technology can go.
The simple mode (simple mode)
In this first test, my goal was to simulate the behavior of a user who enters for the first time. Someone who doesn’t want to get complicated with lyrics or technical styles, but simply has an idea in their head and wants to hear it. I didn’t activate custom mode.

He prompt What I used was direct and evocative, without musical technicalities:
- “A nostalgic, acoustic song about a train ride through Europe in the fall, watching the rain fall out the window. Soft male vocals.”
The result was surprising for its immediacy. In a matter of seconds, Suno generated four variations, two of them behind a paywall:
- Two complete versions with the v4.5-all modelwhich is free. Here a sample:
- Two versions with v5 modellimited to one minute. If you want the full song, you have to pay. Here is a sample for you to compare with the other model:
Focusing on the free ones, I have to say that the AI perfectly understood the concept of nostalgia. The instrumentation was not limited to a basic guitar. He introduced subtle piano arrangements and very soft, almost brush-like percussion.
The most striking thing was the voice. Far from sounding metallic, the interpretation had a certain point of emotion. The lyrics, automatically generated by AI, talked about stations, crumpled tickets and carriages. Nothing too deep and quite simple rhymes, but similar to what you can find in any song of this style. It must be remembered that the request was extremely vague and devoid of context.
Advanced mode (custom mode)
This is where I wanted to push the v5 model to its limits. I activated the Custom Mode. In this section, the tool allows you to enter your own lyrics, which is essential if you want to have narrative control of the song. For this test, I wrote a lyric about an artist’s internal struggle, but what was crucial was the prompt of musical style.

I wanted something complex. A verse-chorus pop structure didn’t work for me. I was looking for changes in rhythm and instrumental density. He prompt The style I introduced was the following:
- Progressive rock opera in the style of the 70s. Dynamic structure: beginning with soft piano ballad, transition to fast hard rock electric guitar solo and epic ending with orchestral choirs and high-range dramatic vocals.
Again, I got four versions:
- Here is the sample with the v4.5-all model:
- And here the preview of the v5 model:
The results are quite impressive. Both pieces have a much more complex structure. In fact, the duration exceeds 5 minutes. Overall, though, the songs are pretty uniform and predictable. Something logical, considering that they emanate from an AI based on probabilistic patterns.
Who is this platform aimed at?
At this point, it is inevitable to ask the big question. Does this mean the end of human musicians? My answer is a resounding no.. Human music has a component of emotional connection, personal history and live performance that an AI cannot replicate. People will continue to go to concerts to see their favorite artists sweat on stage.
However, there is also room for functional music, where Suno AI has a lot to say. Not all the music we consume is transcendental. Think for a moment about the background music for a YouTube video, the setting for an indie video game, the waiting melody of a switchboard or the background music of an elevator or office. There is also the lo-fi phenomenon for studying or working.

In all those cases, where a piece is not needed that will change anyone’s life, Suno is an unbeatable tool. It allows you to generate a custom soundtrack, free of the usual complications of traditional licenses, and with a quality that more than meets the commercial standard.
By the way, before you start publishing your creations, you should know this:
- If you use the basic and free planSuno is the owner of the songs you generate. They allow you to use them for non-commercial purposes, such as showing them to your friends, but you cannot monetize them on Spotify or YouTube.
- If you subscribe to a Pro or Premier Planthings change. You become the owner of the songs and are granted a commercial license to monetize them. You are the only one authorized to distribute those themes.
In any case, my recommendation is that you always read the updated terms and conditions, since this is a legal field that changes almost as quickly as the technology itself.
